PRESS RELEASE

Keg Watch calls for Awareness of Abandoned Beer Kegs in Scotland

The trade association reinforces message for vigilance as regards lost, abandoned or misplaced beer kegs, casks and gas cylinders.

Burton-upon-Trent, 16 December 2014 -
Trade association Keg Watch have embarked upon a campaign to raise further awareness of its service in Scotland.

Keg Watch provide a freephone number where lost, abandoned or misplaced containers can be reported. Keg Watch will then organise prompt repatriation of the containers to their rightful owner.

Each year the brewing industry loses many millions of pounds through the misappropriation of kegs, casks (beer barrels) and dispense gas cylinders. Operating in Britain since 2000, Keg Watch, alongside the British Beer and Pub Association and SIBA, is committed to assisting the Brewing Industry to reduce these losses. Keg Watch specialise in working with the mainland UK’s beer and cider industry to help to maintain the prompt recovery of casks, kegs and dispense gas cylinders for refilling by their owners.

Chairman Hector Taylor said: “Having a ready supply of containers for filling is clearly an important part of ensuring that brewers and gas suppliers can be confident that there is enough supply of product for sale. The work that we do assists this as well as keeping costs down for the entire industry, right through to the consumer.  Repatriation of containers that are outside of the normal supply chain, or which have been abandoned is a particularly important role for Keg Watch and everyone's help in identifying and indeed reporting these containers is vital. We can then ensure that they are speedily returned to where they belong.“

The association ask that If anyone is in the possession of any empty containers that they are having difficulty in returning to their owner, or if they become aware of any abandoned containers, then could they please call Keg Watch immediately on 0808 100 1945, or message the organisation on Twitter @keg_watch
